3 Reasons Hiring a Project Manager is Money Well Spent

Hiring a project manager for your construction project can be a wise investment,

even during the best of times.

As of spring 2022, industry trends mean construction projects are facing significant headwinds, including rising costs for construction materials & equipment and long lead times due to procurement challenges. Each week seems to bring more cost increases and shipping delays for construction materials and equipment. This includes the FF&E trades such as office furniture, audio-visual equipment, security cameras, data cabling and signage.

In fast-growing cities in the Carolinas, we’ve also seen a busy market for contractors, architects and other consultants, resulting in less vendor interest and participation in projects, especially smaller ones.

All this means hiring an Owner’s Representative is more critical than ever.

So what can an Owner’s Rep do for you?

Here are three reasons why hiring an Owner’s Representative (also sometimes referred to as a Project Manager, Construction Manager, Development Manager or Program Manager) can help ensure success for your project.

  1. An experienced Owner’s Representative firm is close to the market and works with multiple contractors, architects and consultants on behalf of the client.

A good Owner’s Representative firm has first-hand knowledge of the workloads and resource capacities of various vendors. As a result, they can make sure the partners selected for your project can meet your scope, schedule and expectations.

  2. You can leverage the Owner’s Representative firm to leverage their relationships to get the best service.

When you hire an established Owner’s Representative firm, you can leverage their strong relationships with contractors, architects, FF&E vendors and other consultants to get the best service. You’ll also get more vendor interest in your project - and a more competitive bidding process - because vendors have a track record of successfully completed projects with that firm, and they know the firm will continue to have future opportunities for them. At Playbook Management, our veteran team has more than 100 years of combined experience in the Charlotte and Carolinas markets, and we’ve built strong relationships with industry firms that can deliver on any client project requirement.

  3. An experienced Owner’s Representative firm has probably seen it all and has overcome the surprises and challenges that come with any construction project.

They bring these successful approaches and lessons learned to every new client project. Their strategies can reduce schedule risks and ensure financial success.

In short, if you’ve wondered whether you should hire an Owner’s Representative firm for your project, don’t hesitate. It will most certainly save you time, money and headaches, paying dividends over the life of your project.
